Tour Description
What better way is there to experience a bit of French local life than spending the morning at the market? Often overlooked by tourists and much coveted by locals, Marché d’Aligre boasts an array of items from flowers to fruits, produce to pastries, with just about everything in between.

During this Paris market tour, you will hop from stand to stand in the company of your local host. They will introduce you to shopkeepers, give you the history behind various French delicacies, and show you how to order some of the best specialties around. You might taste some treats along the way while stocking up on others in preparation for a small end-of-tour picnic. Should you choose, you can wash it all down with a glass of French wine.

You’ll leave this food tour with both a newfound knowledge of local eating habits, as well as a belly full of tasty treats. But more importantly, you will have spent the morning living a truly French experience, as the local market traditions are alive and well in this part of the world.

My daughter and I (the third person who was going to take the tour was sick) met Laurel at Ble Sucre at the appointed time. Laurel and I met while in the bakery while ordering coffee. She was prompt, friendly and a veritable fountain of information about baking, the Marche d'Aligre and food in general. She was so enthusiastic and informative. She knew all the vendors at the market and I think that made the vendors seem very happy to see us and enthusiastic to share their products and expertise with us. We took our time, ambled through the market and sampled some exceptional coffee, chocolate, cheese and ham. What more could a person wish for during a trip to Paris!
Perhaps it was a poor choice for us, but the tour was not particularly helpful or interesting for a visitor to Paris with no access to a kitchen. The market itself was interesting, but we learned less than we expected to about the origins of much of the food. Our docent was the least enthusiastic of any we have had, and so did not add the extra details we have come to expect from Context.
Loved the experience and would use the service again!
