Discover the compelling history of Berlin’s divided past in an interactive and memorable way for the whole family. This 2.5-hour Berlin Wall for Kids tour immerses children and families in the daily life of ordinary Germans during the Cold War, including family separation and the growing division between East and West.
You’ll see traces of this history throughout the city today, from architecture to traffic signals, streetlights to street art. Though the topic is sensitive, your guide will present this in an engaging, age-appropriate way to help young learners understand its significance. The combination of legendary sights and astonishing stories will captivate families, whether return visitors or Berlin first-timers.
Led by a Berlin expert, your child will explore the city’s historic landmarks and architecture that defined the city’s divided past. Your guide will weave a captivating narrative while encouraging participation to help bring the Cold War to life for your young learner.
The day begins with jumping the cobblestone path of the Wall’s former path, where you’ll learn about stories of life behind the Wall. You’ll then peek through the remnants of the East side of the Wall to discover how it was built, maintained, and secured.
Next, you’ll visit the Berlin Wall Memorial to learn about the Wall’s fall in 1989 and its historical importance. As you make your way to the train station, you’ll walk by former escape tunnels, learning about the harrowing attempts to escape to the West. The tour concludes by visiting the iconic TV tower and ascending to the top. From 200 meters up, there are still plenty of visible signs of a city with two very different stories to tell.
By the end of this tour, your young learner will have a solid understanding of Berlin’s divided past and will feel inspired to learn more about the Cold War. The entire family will emerge with newfound knowledge and lasting memories that will resonate for years to come.

No, our itinerary starts at the Berlin Wall Memorial, as it is the most engaging place for children to dig into the history of the Wall. We find that the Berlin Wall Memorial and other locations visited on this tour offer more authentic experiences and deeper insights into Cold War history for families eager to learn. Plus, the sites are geographically spread out, so we've chosen to leave them out in the interest of time.

Is this tour wheelchair-friendly?
Please note there are two lifts at the TV Tower to assist with access to and from the bottom, though, in the case of an emergency, lifts cannot able to be used. As such, the site is only deemed partly wheelchair accessible as it would not be possible to rescue people with accessibility issues in the event of an emergency.

Roberta did a very nice job - and while not as strong and engaging as Vanessa in Amsterdam, she was good and knew her stuff.
The tour itself (the material) was not the best as our walk along the way could have included more history and I would actually blame the city of Berlin for the lack of material and items to review. View from Tower was ok, not sure it was worth the 100 euros plus the time away from the tour. We have taken context tours in Paris, Rome, Berlin and Amsterdam and this was the weakest material to work with - would not recommend this to first-time visitors to Berlin at this price tag.

The tour was poorly designed and poorly executed. It focused far too much on graffiti on a small section of the wall and not enough on the broader picture, the division of the city and the context (literally) of what was happening. It excluded major sights such as Checkpoint Charlie and its museum - a far better place for kids to understand what divided Berlin was like.
Our guide, while a very nice person, is completely inappropriate as a guide for this tour. How can you have someone who has only lived in Berlin for 8 years do this tour when so many Germans who lived through the experience are still available? They simply didn’t know enough.
It seems that Context has grown too fast and can not maintain the high quality standards it established in the past. Better to not accept the booking than to disappoint so much. We’ve taken many of your tours and recommended Context to over a dozen friends. Based on our two tours of Berlin, not sure about doing that in the future.
