Tour Description
Are you ready to discover more about the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism? This journey will reveal Gaudi's talent and what lies behind his majestic works.
We’ll begin by looking at the history of Barcelona and the growth of the city, exploring the work of urban planner Ildefons Cerda, whose 1859 “enlargement” laid out the modern city. With this architectural context as a backdrop, you will make your way through the heart of Barcelona to see two of Gaudí's masterpieces: the Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), where we’ll explore its fantastical exterior, and the Casa Batlló, on the Block of Discord, where we’ll spend time on its roof and the apartment inside.

During the Gaudí tour, you will also look at the works of some of this architect's followers and rivals, including buildings by Puig i Cadafalch and Domènech i Montaner. You will discuss these Modernista architects’ influence on Gaudí and how they wove their unique points of view and inspirations into their finished designs.
By the end, you will have insight into Barcelona’s aesthetic evolution and what led Gaudí to construct incredible buildings that fight against the modern grid deliberately.

What is the difference between a Small Group and a Private Tour?
Context Travel offers both Private and Small Group Tours. Private tours are booked between your party and a local expert, where you'll be given a private tour of the venue. Small Groups are similar to what you might associate with a typical "walking tour." Capped at a maximum of six per group, you'll be joined by other travelers who have purchased the same tour and tour the venue as a group.
Both offer the same Context experience — an incredibly unique, deep dive into a place or subject led by a world-class expert in their field showing you the highlights of iconic venues alongside hidden gems and surprising stories.

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Spain. Erica G was such a pleasure to spend time with. She squeezed so much in our day together....she extended our walk by over an hour which we were very appreciative of.

Erica is very knowledgeable -- but not as good as some of the other docents that Context has provided. WE had more trouble following her -- she tends to speak softly -- and although I know she is enthusiastic about her subject -- it does not come across that way sometimes.

It was excellent. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and was entertaining as well. He showed us things that were off the beaten path.
