Are you ready to discover more about the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism? This journey will reveal Gaudi's talent and what lies behind his majestic works.
We’ll begin by looking at the history of Barcelona and the growth of the city, exploring the work of urban planner Ildefons Cerda, whose 1859 “enlargement” laid out the modern city. With this architectural context as a backdrop, you will make your way through the heart of Barcelona to see two of Gaudí's masterpieces: the Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), where we’ll explore its fantastical exterior, and the Casa Batlló, on the Block of Discord, where we’ll spend time on its roof and the apartment inside.
We’ll begin by looking at the history of Barcelona and the growth of the city, exploring the work of urban planner Ildefons Cerda, whose 1859 “enlargement” laid out the modern city. With this architectural context as a backdrop, you will make your way through the heart of Barcelona to see two of Gaudí's masterpieces: the Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), where we’ll explore its fantastical exterior, and the Casa Batlló, on the Block of Discord, where we’ll spend time on its roof and the apartment inside.
During the Gaudí tour, you will also look at the works of some of this architect's followers and rivals, including buildings by Puig i Cadafalch and Domènech i Montaner. You will discuss these Modernista architects’ influence on Gaudí and how they wove their unique points of view and inspirations into their finished designs.
By the end, you will have insight into Barcelona’s aesthetic evolution and what led Gaudí to construct incredible buildings that fight against the modern grid deliberately.

For this tour, your tickets are pre-purchased which allows you to skip the ticket office line upon arrival at the venue. You may still have to wait in a security line or in a line to have your pre-purchased ticket scanned.
What is the difference between a Small Group and a Private Tour?

Thought it was excellent. Enjoyed walking, learning, looking and experiencing. It was great to start off our trip this way as it helped frame much of what we saw later.

Our guide was nice, courteous, responsive to our questions, and had a good command of English. However, important, pre-confirmed tour arrangements were not properly executed. 1) Tour started 15 minutes late because guide was waiting for us at the wrong location; our written instructions said to meet at Hotel Casa Fuster, but our guide said he was told to meet at Casa Mila. We had to call the emergency number to locate our guide. 2) We prepaid for tickets to Sagrada Familia and Context confirmed in writing that our guide would have our tickets with him. However, he did not, so we waited in line for 50 minutes to purchase entrance tickets. Since tickets can be easily purchased on line with a entry time window, we saw no reason why Context had not already purchased our tickets. Due to our long delay in the ticket queue, we did not have time, as originally planned, to take the lift up the tower on our own (after our tour). 3) Unexpectedly, we were strongly discouraged to take the interior viewing of Casa Batlo as planned in our customized tour (told that it wasn't worth the high entrance fee). We took our guide's advice on this, but still wonder what we missed. As it turned out, even without seeing inside Casa Batlo, we finished our tour almost an hour late (because of the long line at Sagrada Familia). We also did not have time to see the nearby Montaner Hospital building, which our guide originally thought he had time to show us.
