Tour Description
Are you ready to discover more about the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism? This journey will reveal Gaudi's talent and what lies behind his majestic works.
We’ll begin by looking at the history of Barcelona and the growth of the city, exploring the work of urban planner Ildefons Cerda, whose 1859 “enlargement” laid out the modern city. With this architectural context as a backdrop, you will make your way through the heart of Barcelona to see two of Gaudí's masterpieces: the Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), where we’ll explore its fantastical exterior, and the Casa Batlló, on the Block of Discord, where we’ll spend time on its roof and the apartment inside.

During the Gaudí tour, you will also look at the works of some of this architect's followers and rivals, including buildings by Puig i Cadafalch and Domènech i Montaner. You will discuss these Modernista architects’ influence on Gaudí and how they wove their unique points of view and inspirations into their finished designs.
By the end, you will have insight into Barcelona’s aesthetic evolution and what led Gaudí to construct incredible buildings that fight against the modern grid deliberately.

What is the difference between a Small Group and a Private Tour?
Context Travel offers both Private and Small Group Tours. Private tours are booked between your party and a local expert, where you'll be given a private tour of the venue. Small Groups are similar to what you might associate with a typical "walking tour." Capped at a maximum of six per group, you'll be joined by other travelers who have purchased the same tour and tour the venue as a group.
Both offer the same Context experience — an incredibly unique, deep dive into a place or subject led by a world-class expert in their field showing you the highlights of iconic venues alongside hidden gems and surprising stories.

Great topic with so much to see which kept it interesting.
Liked bypassing lines at Casa Mila. Loved going on the roof there!
Sonia very knowledgable and spoke the most of all the guides. I think we all learned the most on this tour.
Good interaction with Jake but her questions to him required he have some previous knowledge which he didn't. Great job at asking Jake questions in the first place however just need to make them easier.

Our docent was sweet, but she was late for the first tour (5 minutes or so but with no apology). She was fine on the Gaudi tour in the morning, less good on the Sagrada Familia, where she was 15 minutes late owing to a confusion about our meeting spot (she was confused, we were there). Overall, I would say that she did not seem passionate about the subject. She was fine, and our teenage children enjoyed the Gaudi experience, but there was not a palpable intellectual passion to her tour.

Celia was great. She was knowledgeable, passionate about architecture and enthusiastic about Barcelona generally. We covered a lot of ground that day as, in addition to the normal Gaudi tour, we added a tour of Park Guell. It was a lot of walking on a hot day and maybe a more than we should have attempted on our second day in Barcelona. Nonetheless, we learned a lot and enjoyed our time with Celia immensely.
