Tour Description
Are you ready to discover more about the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism? This journey will reveal Gaudi's talent and what lies behind his majestic works.
We’ll begin by looking at the history of Barcelona and the growth of the city, exploring the work of urban planner Ildefons Cerda, whose 1859 “enlargement” laid out the modern city. With this architectural context as a backdrop, you will make your way through the heart of Barcelona to see two of Gaudí's masterpieces: the Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), where we’ll explore its fantastical exterior, and the Casa Batlló, on the Block of Discord, where we’ll spend time on its roof and the apartment inside.

During the Gaudí tour, you will also look at the works of some of this architect's followers and rivals, including buildings by Puig i Cadafalch and Domènech i Montaner. You will discuss these Modernista architects’ influence on Gaudí and how they wove their unique points of view and inspirations into their finished designs.
By the end, you will have insight into Barcelona’s aesthetic evolution and what led Gaudí to construct incredible buildings that fight against the modern grid deliberately.

What is the difference between a Small Group and a Private Tour?
Context Travel offers both Private and Small Group Tours. Private tours are booked between your party and a local expert, where you'll be given a private tour of the venue. Small Groups are similar to what you might associate with a typical "walking tour." Capped at a maximum of six per group, you'll be joined by other travelers who have purchased the same tour and tour the venue as a group.
Both offer the same Context experience — an incredibly unique, deep dive into a place or subject led by a world-class expert in their field showing you the highlights of iconic venues alongside hidden gems and surprising stories.

Our guide was fabulous. His English was perfect. He was very imformative and made sure to show us everything and give us great ideas to spend the rest of the day. It was a perfect day in Barcelona. Everything worked I have no complaints.

Biel was very knowledgeable on both Gaudi and Spain/ Catalan region, and didn't mind answering questions regardless of the subject.
I though contrasting the work of Gaudi with Montaner and Cadafalch was a good way of structuring the walk and providing a reference point for Gaudi's work.
I enjoyed the fact other Gaudi buildings where discussed during the walk as when I visited these the following day i felt it improved my understanding of the building.
Group size (3 people plus Biel) was good.
There is nothing that comes to mind which didn't work.

Biel was very knowledgable and asked us if he was covering the information that we were interested in. He was able to answer our questions with an hisorical context making the archetectural tour very rich. All 3 of us were interested which is very good since my young adult sons would not have sought out this type of tour. The experience was a demonstration of how a vacation can provide a fun learning experience. Walking the streets made the entire environment like a museum with plenty of action and movement. The tour of the MIla Apartment Buildin was more amazing than any of us would have expected.
The only matter that could have more clarity would be the meeting point. We were inside the corredor of the hotel we were told to meet at and found we were walking up to people asking if they were with Context which was rather embarrassing. Then I saw a gentleman outside with a briefcase and sure enough it was he. A badge to watch for would be helpful.
Another point is that we have used Context in other countries and once in Italy were 3 minutes late due to traffic. The tour had left and we were fine with the consequence of calling the emergency number and catching up as it was our responsibility and not that of others who had paid to wait for us. On Aug 4 for the Gaudi Tour we were delayed going on the tour for 20 minutes as our guide was waiting for 2 people that were not showing up. I politley pointed out to him that we are all responsible for getting there on time and that we who have paid a good fee for the tour should not have to wait. He agreed and we proceeded. With 3 of us we were able to move along well.
