Venice's Cannaregio neighborhood remains a respite away from the crowds of St. Mark's and is home to much of Venice's resident population. Largely avoided by tourists, this charming neighborhood provides an excellent opportunity to experience the magic of Venice without jostling for breath with large groups. During this three-hour Cannaregio tour, we'll spend equal time looking at art, architecture, and local character, providing you with an insider's sense of both modern and historical Venice.

I was especially pleased with our guide, Louise Warman, in Venice. She was on time, prepared, knowledgable and read our interests and pace well. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with her.

Matteo was very friendly and very personable, and he did a great job. We very much appreciated his background not just on Cannaregio but also on the history and development of Venice in general. He answered questions well, and he knew the subject matter.
The walk itself covered a very interesting part of Venice that we probably wouldn't have explored very well on our own. We found ourselves back in that neighborhood a couple of times during our stay, following some of Matteo's recommendations and suggestions.
Given his background, it might be nice to have Matteo talk a bit more about the archeological record of Venice, if he had time during the walk.
Overall, a really fun and informative 3 hours!

Our docent knew the history of Venice, as well as how the history evolved into modern Venice. She led us through churches and their art and also the business side of Venice. We particularly enjoyed a visit to a working foundry.
